Fixed: Mouse cursor blinking/flicker in Splashtop host computer Windows 7/XP

Posted by: mynag In: Solutions & Tips|Windows

This solution is to fixed the mouse cursor blinking or flickering in the host computer running Splashtop streamer when it is connected to Splashtop Remote Desktop running on your tablet or mobile phone. This fix applies for both Windows XP and Windows 7.

If you have more than one monitor and when the Splashtop Remote Desktop is set to display or mirror the 2nd or the 3rd monitor, you will realize that the mouse flicker rate on the host computer’s monitor becomes higher.

You can download the following zip file from Splashtop that will fix the mouse blinking issues below.

DisableForceCapBlt_XP.zip

  1. Download(Above) & Extract the Registry file (reg extension file) onto your desktop (or anywhere on your computer).
  2. Double-click (left mouse click) on the Registry file.
  3. Exit the Splashtop Streamer program on the host computer. (Ensure that the Splashtop program is closed and not minimize or hidden from the taskbar)
  4. Open Splashtop Streamer again and connect the host with Splashtop Remote desktop.  The mouse should appear okay now.

If you are not able to download the Registry file from the Splashtop support websites, here’s what you can do.

*Remember to backup the Registry before making any attempt to change it.

  1. Open the Registry Editor by typing command regedt32 at the “Search programs and files” text box for Windows 7 or the Run text box for Windows XP.
  2. On the left pane, drill down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Splashtop Inc. > Splashtop Remote Server
  3. On the Registry Editor top menu, click Edit > New > DWORD (32 bit)
  4. Change and rename the name “New Value #…“  to ForceCapBlt
  5. Set the Value data to 0 (Zero).
  6. Click Ok and exit the Registry editor.
  7. Exit the Splashtop Streamer program on the host computer. (Ensure that the Splashtop program is closed and not minimize or hidden from the taskbar)
  8. Open Splashtop Streamer again and connect the host with Splashtop Remote desktop.  The mouse should appear okay now.

caution.gif  There is something we need to highlight here:  This workaround may cause a limitation related to the Windows transparency effect.  That is, for a Windows transparency-effect UI, it may not be shown on the tablet when you connect to your XP.  This would be the trade-off.  The mouse would hopefully no longer flicker, but the Windows transparency-effect UI would not carry over to the client display.

note.gif  NOTE:  This work-around will be incompatible with some Splashtop apps like Splashtop Whiteboard, Splashtop Presenter.
